Here are some of my favorites or find your own:
New for 2011-20112:
- Story Telling Through Toast Band OK Go has many creative ways of making music videos. This one is stop action animation on toast. Creativity that boggles the mind! What Bible story could your class tell on toast?
- Creation Story in Sand Art This would be good to use during our Bible unit this fall.
- Scale of the Universe It is a website, not a video. Super cool if you scroll all the way to the right, but save that for last. Jesus says, "Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor's, and to God the things that are God's." If God created all things and everything belongs to God, perhaps this would be a good time to put it all in perspective. Primax Studio's Interactive Scale of the Universe tool puts the smallness and the largeness of creation in perspective. How do we honor God by being good stewards of all creation?
- Public Policy Pickles The MN Church Ladies return to help us understand when one person is affected, we are all affected.
New for 2010-2011:
- Church Ladies Solve Budget Crisis Minnesota budget facts mixed with hot dish humor. A good starting point for a discussion on poverty.
- Blind Quilter An inspirational story, a story of God's unexpected call.
- Child Conductor This 4 year old has a musical gift. Watch all the way to the end to see his joy overcome him. Discussion question: What gifts do you have that give you the most joy?
- The Digital Story of the Nativity Clever way to tell the story!
- Lego Luther Rose Family Fun Night A video about a church that made a giant mural of the Luther Rose out of Legos.
- Joshua Bell plays violin in metro station The Washington Post did an experiment in which it placed Joshua Bell, perhaps the best violin player in the United States, in a D.C. Metro subway station during rush hour. The question was how many people would stop to listen to him. Would the commuters perceive him to be the great musician he truly is? The results were astounding. Hardly anyone stopped to listen. The context, one in which you would not expect to hear truly remarkable music, dominated the way people perceived Bell, as just another street musician. What does this imply for when and where we see or miss seeing the presence of Christ in the world? When do we miss seeing Jesus in our lives because he comes to us in an unexpected way? The video of the experiment, Joshua Bell "Stop and Hear the Music" by the Washington Post is available onYouTube. Read the full story on the newspaper's Web site.
- Advent Conspiracy Thought provoking about the traditions of Christmas.
- Sound of Music Antwerp Train Station A flashmob dance. I would be delighted to see something like this in person. Not being a dancer, I'm fascinated by the coordination.
- Ode to Joy, Muppets A music video featuring Beeker from the Muppets. There are other Muppet music video links that are good too.
- GoD and DoG A short music video about the similarities between the love of God and the love of a dog.
- Patrick Henry Hughes A news story about a college student with amazing musical abilities and his father who helps him overcome his physical challenges.
From previous years:
- Where in the hell is Matt? It has videos of a bad dancer named Matt, doing a goofy dance all over the world. Sometimes he's alone, sometimes he has a bunch of people join him, sometimes he is in front of a recognizable monument. It isn't very long, but it is strangely compelling.
- How did Matt get those people to dance with him? If you want to hear more about the first video, watch this one.
- Hallelujah Chorus Nuns. I love this one, the jumping nun is great, but the whole thing is interesting to watch.
- Hallelujah Chorus High School Bell Choir. Only 4 players cover all the bells!
